"I had surgery with Dr.Lao last March 24,2015. My procedure was upper blepharoplasty, brow lift, autologous fat graft to lower lids, chemical peel and neck lift. I had excellent results. I chose him because I saw results from other patients post op. I'm a plastic surgery nurse for years and I can tell you he's a talented doctor, caring and had good bedside manners. Dr.Lao,thank you for correcting my uneven brows and eyes.I was hesitant at first to have the brow lift because I might get a surprise look but you did it perfectly. It opened up my eyes like the way I look when I was younger. I love my neck, no more chords & extra skin under my chin. The peel improved the texture of my face. For patients contemplating for any cosmetic procedure you have to go to Dr.Lao.Wherever he practice here in the States or Asia, I highly recommend him."
He made me feel like I was his only patient although he is extremely busy with many other patients and all kinds of procedures. He is kind, thoughtful and gives you all the time you need for questions, follow up etc. In fact, his follow-up was flawless..always in touch and always got back to me the same day. He was never hurried and never worried...the perfect match for me. — - RJ, New York, USA

Is it safe to get breast implants, can they bust and harm you ?
Breast AugmentationMember Response:
Hello Brandi, Breast augmentation with implants is a time tested procedure that has been done for decades. Its safety and effect are well known among the plastic surgery communities. No additional risk if you are talking about day to day activities and sport events as long as we are not talking about extreme activities like deep sea diving etc which no studies have been done for those. You definitely can resume all activities like swimming, cycling and all things you enjoy in life with breast implants. That being said, breast implants are not life time device, so there is a chance in your life time that they might need to be replaced due to various reasons. To understand the potential reasons for replacement I would recommend you make an appointment to consult a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss in details about implants. Hope that partly answered your questions, William Lao MD, New York Board Certified Plastic Surgeon
Removal of old implants & replacement
Breast AugmentationMember Response:
Hi Barbara, though not an emergent situation, all leaked/ruptured implants should be removed and replaced. Depending on what filling material, the leaked out substance can harm surrounding tissue by forming granulomas or nodules (from chronic local inflammation) or cause further tightness and pain from a condition we called capsule contracture. If your filling material is saline then quickly you will see contour deformity from substantial deflation. So I would urge you to find a board certified plastic surgeon to examine you, look at your films, and potentially schedule a time for replacement. Implants are man made devices so they are not meant to last forever, it's a very common condition that plastic surgeons deal with all the time. I am sure you will find good plastic surgeons in your area who are capable to handle this problem. William Lao, MD New York Board Certified Plastic Surgeon
post hysterectomy scar repair
Tummy TuckMember Response:
Hello, typically it takes about one year for the scar to mature, but in some people it can take up to one year and half for the scar to continue to change. But what you are describing sounds like there is tethering of scar tissue from the surface all the way down to muscle fascia underneath, that's why the skin and soft tissue on top overhangs or is more prominent relative to the scar. It is not difficult to correct but will likely need to revise the scar and release the tethering. Still need to examine it in person to know exactly what you need. Dr. Lao
have an appendectomy scar
Tummy TuckMember Response:
Hi Taos, Of course! Many people with either appendectomy scar, or unsightly C section scar all appropriate for abdominoplasty and can most often remove that scar in the process of an abdominoplasty. You need to be examined by a board certified plastic surgeon first to see if you have any hernia from the old incision etc, but having an appendectomy scar for sure does not exclude you from having a tummy tuck. Ruptured Silicone Gel Implant
Breast AugmentationMember Response:
Dear Ms. Kelsey, What you are describing could very well be an implant rupture. When a silicone implant ruptures, the silicone filling inside can migrate anywhere around the original pocket. Most of the time it remains in the capsule that formed around the original implant but other times it can go outside the capsule and to more distant part of the chest (like the collar bone area you mentioned). The best thing to do now is to remove all the implant and ruptured material, wash out the area well and then depending on how clean the pocket is whether to replace it at the same time or in a later setting. You can also see some cases I uploaded in my profile for secondary breast implant exchange. best regards, William Lao, MD Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Manhattan, New York
Mommy Makeover
Breast AugmentationMember Response:
Hello, Your situation is common for ladies after giving birth, especially those after multiple children or twins. The separated abdominal muscles can be tightened during an abdominoplasty procedure (tummy tuck) and your breast can also be lifted or volumized in many ways. Hope this information helps, Dr. Lao New York
Liposuction w breast augmentation
Breast AugmentationMember Response:
Hi Alexandra, actually liposuction of the preaxillary roll is frequently done and combining with breast augmentation is generally not a problem. Many women have some fullness there with aging and weight gain so it’s a very commonly addressed area in plastic surgery. I have not seen liposuction of that area alone causing any long term lymphedema. If you are going for a C cup or even a D- cup generally it’s well tolerated. William Lao, MD New York
Cost and recovery
Breast LiftMember Response:
Hi Mary, unfortunately most cosmetic procedures are not covered by insurance. Breast lift, like other colleagues have replied, is a procedure that can involve other associated procedures like breast augmentation to achieve the best result suitable for you. I have attached a young patient, 20 year old after breast feeding, who had a simple breast lift procedure with me before and you can see if this is the kind of result you might be looking for. “Dr. Lao es muy profesional y eficiente. El me hizo sentir muy confortable desde mi primera consulta hasta la ultima, despues de la operacion el fue muy atento y siempre se preocupo hasta por las mas pequeñas preguntas. “ - BB, New York, USA
"I feel very blessed and fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet such a talented young Doctor. I am 57 year old female. In December 2014, I had a facial procedure done. My eyelids top & bottom and face was lifted. I am 100% satisfied with the results. People see me and they say I look 10 years younger. My confidence level is off the charts. I can't say enough about Dr. William Lao. He was kind, considerate, compassionate and caring. We had open communication through emails & telephone calls. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Lao, considering I interviewed 8 different plastic surgeons. Dr. Lao, is a graduate of Johns Hopkins Medical School which is one of the finest institutions in the world. Dr. Lao I will be forever grateful. Thank you."
"Dr. Lao's attention to my hopes for an improved appearance resulted in just the outcomes I desired. I asked for a forehead lift which he executed beautifully. At his suggestion, I also received an eyelid enhancement wherein the area was refreshed with fat from my abdomen to create a more youthful appearance. The results are amazing. Further, he went above and beyond when I hit a snag in arranging for post procedural care and helped me arrange for a home attendant. His care was thorough, thoughtful and sensitive to my individual needs. I highly recommend his services."
Working with Dr. Lao was a great experience. He is the nicest doctor I have ever had. Very warm and friendly, like a good friend. Excellent bedside manner. And the doctor is so accessible, whenever I had a concern I would call or email him and he was always there for me. He makes you feel like he cares about you as a person, and not like you are just a patient. On the results, Dr. Lao's work was great, giving me a refined, pretty nose. My life has gotten significantly better, with higher self confidence and compliments on my looks. I would highly recommend Dr. Lao! "Dr. Lao oyaadi. Na ejwuma ehu gi!" That is it in twi :) And the English translation is "Dr. Lao does exceptional work. He did a fine job."
"I recently had a face, brow and neck lift with Dr. Lao and he did a fantastic job. My friends all think I look great. I have also recently received compliments on my appearance from people I see only on an occasional basis. I think they know something is different about my appearance but can’t seem to figure out what it is. I think this fact attests to the “natural” look Dr. Lao achieved. Dr. Lao is very personable and is a perfectionist but what I liked best about him is that he listened to what I wanted and we planned the surgery together. I have already been asked for his contact info by several friends. I would highly recommend him to anyone without hesitation."
