Breast Reduction
Breast ReductionMember Response:
I have many patients with a similar story to you. They try to lose weight to see if their breast size will decrease and for some this does work and for some it does not. The breast is made up of no the breast tissue and fat and a lot of this is hormonally based. Each person has a different composition and your breasts may be more dense, with more breast tissue. Therefore, weight loss may not result in smaller breasts. That being said, if you have successfully lost weight and still have pain, you may want to consider a breast reduction. My breast reduction patients are so happy after surgery not only with their breasts but with their improvement in pain.
Qualifications for a breast reduction
Breast ReductionMember Response:
Hello Tiffany-Amber. If you are suffering from back pain, tingling and rashes beneath your breasts, and have large breasts then you are correct in thinking that a breast reduction may help those symptoms. I perform this surgery quite often and my patients tell me that after surgery these symptoms are either completely resolved or very much improved. Insurance often covers the surgery, if your insurance company deems it medically necessary. When you see a board certified plastic surgeon for consultation, she or he can review your symptoms, the workup that your underwent and what treatments you have tried already. She can then give you the best advice moving forward as to whether the surgery would be covered by insurance. Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions. When/if to do a second breast reduction
Breast ReductionMember Response:
A secondary breast reduction is certainly an option if you are feeling the same symptoms that you were having when your breast were a 32I. It can be done safely and the plastics surgeon may want you to provide the operative report from your first surgery. Additionally, if you are considering having children in the near future, it might be advisable to wait until afterwards since your breasts will change shape and size with pregnancy and breast feeding. Regarding your question of whether a DDD warrants another reduction, that is a personal decision and can be discussed at the time of your consultation. It also depends on what size you are looking to be after surgery. Insurance coverage for the procedure usually partially depends on how much tissue is removed. If your plastic surgeon does not feel that you have enough tissue to be covered under your insurance, you may still be able to do a small reduction by paying out of pocket. It sounds like a consultation is the next step...
Frowning Belly Button & Loose Skin HELP!
Tummy TuckMember Response:
Hi Juliana. Congratulations on the weight loss! It can be frustrating having loose skin after all of the work you did to lose the weight. After you weight is stable you may notice that the skin has tightened somewhat. If you are already at a stable weight for more than 6 months, the skin will likely not contract any more so removing the extra loose skin above and below the belly button may be the best option. That being said, the problem with doing the tummy tuck before having children is that some of the work might be “undone” by the future pregnancies. You could consider a skin only tummy tuck and not tighten the muscle because you are planning to have children soon. Feel free to reach out to my office if you want to chat more. My office is near you in Babylon.
Asymmetric breasts
Breast AugmentationMember Response:
As a female plastic surgeon, I see many women with breast asymmetries. It is very common. The breasts are sisters, not twins. Although I can only see one angle from the photo, it does appear that you may need a lift and reduction to match the larger breast with the smaller breast. Upon examination, you can discuss with your surgeon if you want to add volume with an implant and you can choose the size. The implants and the symmetry procedure can likely be performed during the same surgery.
Is it worth it?
Breast ReductionMember Response:
I perform many breast reductions and I can say with certainty that these patients are the HAPPIEST patients after surgery. They say that their back and neck pain is alleviated, their rashes have gone, and their self image has improved because they feel more proportionate. Of course it is a big decision, but if you are doing it for the right reasons then it is absolutely a very rewarding surgery.
Congenital Symmastia / breast reduction
Breast ReductionMember Response:
Hello Jaleah. It does appear that you would benefit from a breast reduction. I perform many breasts reductions. Your insurance may cover your procedure. I am in Manhattan and along Island and would be happy to see you for consultation to further discuss the process. Dr. Samara Churgin
Tummy tuck after multiple pregnancies
Tummy TuckMember Response:
Hello Frannie, It sounds like from what you are describing that a tummy tuck would be helpful to address your loose skin that has resulted from your pregnancies. Depending on whether you have excess fat in the love handle area, you may also benefit from liposuction to narrow this area. When you describe an "apple shape", that usually means one of two things - that you have a loose abdominal wall from stretching of the muscles with pregnancy or that you have some intra-abdominal fat. The former, loose muscles, can be tightened with the tummy tuck, acting like an internal corset. The latter, having intra-abdominal fat, would be better addressed with diet and exercise. This can be delineated by an in person consultation with a Plastic Surgeon. Good Luck!
Will this qualify me for Breast reduction Surgery?
Breast ReductionMember Response:
Hello. To best answer your question as to whether you qualify for a breast reduction, an in person consultation would be the best to guide you along in this process. As a female plastic surgeon that performs many breast reductions, I can tell you that a number of factors weigh into the insurance company’s decision to cover a surgery such as this. We would need to discuss your symptoms, any treatment that you underwent and why had the MRI done to begin with. Lumbar back disease neither qualifies or disqualifies you for breast reduction surgery. Feel free to contact me if you would like to learn more about breast reduction surgery and insurance coverage. My staff and I specialize in helping guide patients through the process. Dr. Samara Churgin Manhattan, New York

Kristina Grosso 5 STAR GOOGLE VERIFIED REVIEW A month ago, I had a Breast Reduction with Dr. Churgin. She is AMAZING! From the first consultation I knew I met the right doctor. Not only is she a brilliant surgeon but she is so down to earth. I had serious medical concerns in the past with anesthesia and was worried about surgery. She went above and beyond to make sure I would be ok. She reached out to my other doctors and got the best anesthesiologist team, who she fully briefed about my issues, and assured me I would be fine. She was so thorough; she would even call me on the weekend to keep me updated! The entire staff are very friendly, professional and go above and beyond! I absolutely love them all! They even worked with my insurance company, which covered the procedure 100%. I have always had large breasts (38H) and had years of back, neck and shoulder pain. Making the decision to have this surgery was the best decision I could have ever made for myself. I am so in love with my new breasts! I feel lighter and more confident. I am having so much fun bra and bathing suit shopping, which I used to dread because nothing ever fit! THANK YOU Dr. Churgin, Mrs. Churgin, Kathy and Frank for treating me like family and for being so great!
Yumilka Nunez 5 STAR GOOGLE VERIFIED REVIEW I have to say that going in to see Dr. Churgin was a very great experience. I am very satisfied with the treatment I received , everything was very well organized and very professional. I highly recommended her to anyone in need.
Joshua Petion 5 STAR GOOGLE VERIFIED REVIEW To those I'm honored to read my story below, thank you! And for fellow guys out there with concerns, I urge you to take a look. I've had the condition gynocomastia grade 4 for as long as I can remember, and the impact it does to ones self esteem growing up is downright brutal. Fear of playing sports, gyms, friend circles, even deciding on what to wear daily for fear of ridicule and judgement (I even avoided highschool prom and dances because of it). Not to mention the strain the size of the breast tissue has on you when you DO try to hide and manage it (Trust me, I tried the mile, two words, gravity sucks). One day, I felt I needed to take action, and on a whim, I was researching that very few insurances and doctors would perform the surgery I've always wanted to at least try and see what could happen. Dr. Churgin was phenomenal! The staff make you feel like an actual person rather than a number with having a friendly environment! Not only did I get an amazing result (honest 10/10) she worked with me and went out of her way to try and get the insurance to approve it! I didnt pay a dime! All I say is take the chance for a consultation, you may be surprised at the results of what she can try to do for you! If you're still skeptical, ask her for my before and after! To the guys out there like me with concerns, take a chance with Dr. Churgin, I did, and I'm more than happier! Just take that chance! ~J.P
Marilyn Mccullar 5 STAR GOOGLE VERIFIED REVIEW Doctor Samara Churgin is a wonderful doctor! I fill she saved my life! I had a very bad infection in my left breast; I had implants. I went into ER and she did my surgery 2 days later, so infection would not possible turn into sepsis. Also, she is very down to earth and easy to talk too. Thank you so much and you are truly amazing Dr. Churgin!!
Lisa Bogart 5 STAR GOOGLE VERIFIED REVIEW Dr. Churgin definitely made my recent need for stitches much less scary. Her confident, professional, and personable bedside manner helped put me at ease as did my full confidence in her abilities. Dr. Churgin, who is a dear friend of mine, was truly there for me when I called her about an injury I had just sustained. She went out of her way to make room in her busy schedule to meet me in the ER and administer the stitches. I have no doubt that Dr. Churgin treats all her patients with the utmost care. Her office staff are also very friendly and effective. I highly recommend Dr. Samara Churgin’s plastic surgery practice.
Kris Chovnick 5 STAR GOOGLE VERIFIED REVIEW For several years, I have not only suffered with chronic back pain, but also gender dysphoria that has lead to a seemingly unbeatable depression. Because of this, it affected my mental and physical health to the point where I could barely function in society. This was especially due to having very enlarged breasts. I remember both my therapist and my grandfather recommending me to Dr. Samara Churgin, and discovering that she was one of the most highly rated surgeons in New York. And so far, those reviews were absolutely correct. At my first consultation with Dr. Churgin, which was over a year ago, I was terrified of getting denied care based on my gender identity. So at first, I pitched that I wanted a partial mastectomy. However, she was quick to realize how hesitant I was while explaining that, and offered if a full mastectomy was what I wanted. Being the operation that I have been looking for so long, her absolute kindness and acceptance, complimented with her unanimously positive reviews; I knew I had picked the right surgeon. The same day, I was delighted to hear that my insurance company had recently allowed surgeries for transgender patients to be covered. Ever since then, Dr. Churgin and her staff have been working persistently hard in keeping contact with my insurance company to make sure it was doing exactly what they were supposed to be doing. I could not thank them enough for their overwhelming support thus far. Now my full mastectomy is to take place on July 24th, and I have nothing but high hopes for how it will go. If anyone is in search of a professional surgeon that is both overly welcoming and supportive, I would definitely recommend contacting Dr. Churgin.
Emelyn Cevero 5 STAR GOOGLE VERIFIED REVIEW I work in the medical field. I know first hand that Doctors do not always tell the truth. I have friends that have had breast reductions by doctors that tell them , that there entire surgery will be covered by insurance. However after the surgery, they received a huge bill. Apparently the Doctors office did not get authorization and consent to do their surgery. So I was very skeptical about going out of network to a Doctor that does not participate in my Insurance. In my search for a good Doctor, a friend of mine recommended me to Doctor Churgin. From the moment I called Doctor Churgins office I was told by the office administrator that since I am out of network I should come in and see Doctor Churgin and Doctor Churgin will accept whatever the Insurance company pays. Doctor Churgin and her staff were extremely professional. Kind and considerate of my feelings. I had many questions before my surgery and they were thoroughly explained to me and it gave me a comfort level and piece of mind. I want to stress that my authorization and consent in writing was obtained so quickly that I could not believe it. Everything the administrator , Doctor Churgin, the medical assistant and her wonderful staff told me was accurate, honest and truthful. I am extremely satisfied with my Breast reduction surgery. Doctor Churgin and her staff are amazing , awesome, knowledgeable and welcoming. You can ask Doctor Churgin and her staff all your concerns and they will happily answer everything for you. I saved the best for Last, I get a year of aftercare for free! No charge for visits for a year! I highly recommend Doctor Churgin and her staff!
Heather Reismiller 5 STAR GOOGLE VERIFIED REVIEW I cannot even say enough about Dr. Churgin and her wonderful office! What a talented, caring, fantastic doctor she is!!! She's got a great personality, ans she makes you feel so comfortable. I went in for a bilateral breast reduction on April 24, 2019. The entire process was so simple! I have Empire Insurance and the procedure was covered 100 percent! I paid NOTHING out of pocket! Consultation, follow ups, etc...everything was covered! If you are nervous about going out of network, don't be. Everything that was said in office is true. Dr. Churgin takes only what the insurance company offers as payment. Her office staff (Cathy, Frank, Ann, and Mrs. Churgin) are all so knowledgeable and did everything to prepare for the surgery (approval, hospital booking, insurance). As far as the surgery, it went very very smoothly! From the arrival to the hospital, to the surgery itself, and to my discharge (I went home same day), the process was smooth sailing. As for my bilateral breast reduction? I am 100 percent satisfied and would do again in a heartbeat. I don't know why I waited this long to do it! My neck and back pain has vanished (it seems like overnight). They are perfectly symmetrical and the perfect size for me! I went from a 34 HH to about a 34 Large C/D. I could not be any happier! Don't waste anymore time! Book a consultation with Dr. Churgin! You will not regret it! She's an artist! Thank you so much Dr. Churgin!!!!!
A.M. 5 STAR GOOGLE VERIFIED REVIEW Dr. Churgin is a breast reduction master, truly. I came to her with DDD saggy breasts, looking for a solution to my back pain and also hoping to have the kind of breasts a young woman would want at 26 years old. To add to this, I came to Dr. Churgin just 3 WEEKS BEFORE my insurance was about to end as I turned 26 years old - a near impossible task in itself, if it wasn't for the SUPER human task force of Dr. Churgin, Mrs. Churgin, Cathy, and the whole office team. Headed by Mrs. Churgin (Dr. Churgin's mother), they went full force ahead, night and day, from the moment I called them, to get this job done for me and have it covered under my insurance. Now here I am, 2 weeks post-op, with the surgery covered completely under my insurance with NO COST to me, and on top of that, with perfect barbie breasts. I still can't believe it, and even my friends with breasts I once envied, ENVY MINE! I was blessed in finding Dr. Churgin, and if you are lucky enough to come across this doctor as well, trust me when I say TAKE THE OPPORUNITIY and change your life with her. She's a class act and not like any doctor I've seen. I think she is going to be a superstar in the plastics world. GET HER NOW!!
Olu Adedapo 5 STAR GOOGLE VERIFIED REVIEW Dr.Churgin and her staff are the nicest people. I have only worked with the Manhattan location but I have been on the phone with their Long Island staff and they are the best. Patient and kind. Would 100 percent recommend. I’m about four months out from my procedure and they still give you the same attention to detail as if you were a day out.
