Snoring

Rhinoplasty

Member Response:

The correction for snoring depends on the site of obstruction. Some causes respond to surgery. Other cases are not repairable, unfortunately. Non-surgical therapy may include a mouthpiece to advance the mandible and open the airway. A CPAP machine (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) also works by keeping constant low pressure in the airway and maintaining a relaxed airway open while a person is sleeping. ENT doctors sometimes treat snoring with a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. UPPP (Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty) is also employed by ENT doctors to remodel the palatal mucosa. Other doctors have suggested palatal implants to create more stability in the palate. I have no experience with this method. A deviated septum is rarely a cause of snoring, but may also cause snoring or obstruction. In my opinion, a good exam and intranasal evaluation is the first place to begin.
