Septoplasty

Deviated Septum Correction

A septoplasty is performed to correct a deviated septum, alleviating breathing difficulties and reduced airflow of the nasal airway.

How should I prepare for a septoplasty?

In preparing for septoplasty, you may be asked to:

  • Get lab testing or a medical evaluation
  • Take certain medications or adjust your current medications
  • Stop smoking
  • Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding

Septoplasty is typically performed in a hospital or licensed ambulatory surgery setting, and will likely use general anesthesia. Your plastic surgeon will also discuss where yous procedure will be performed. If your septoplasty surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, be sure to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery and to stay with you for at least the first night following surgery.
