Microsurgery

Microscope-Assisted Operations

Reconstructive microsurgery focuses on repairing intricate structures such as blood vessels and nerves less than a few millimeters in diameter.

What results should I expect after microsurgery?

The final results of microsurgery may be initially obscured by swelling and will develop over time. The practice of medicine and surgery is not an exact science, so results may vary based on the procedure in which microsurgery is used.

While advances in microsurgery can accomplish near miracles in reconstruction and replantation, your outcome cannot be fully predicted. For certain traumatic injuries, it may not be possible to achieve completely normal function. In some situations, it may not be possible to achieve optimal results with a single surgical procedure, and another surgery may be necessary.

When you go home, if you experience shortness of breath, chest pains, or unusual heart beats, seek medical attention immediately. Should any of these complications occur, you may require hospitalization and additional treatment.

Following your physician's instructions is key to the success of your surgery. It is important that the surgical incisions are not subjected to excessive force, abrasion or motion during the time of healing. Your doctor will give you specific instructions on how to care for yourself.
