What to look for in breast augmentation before and after photos

breast augmentation before and after photos

Once you've decided that breast augmentation is the right procedure for you, choosing the right plastic surgeon to help you with this life-transforming next step might seem overwhelming. It's tempting to think that any skilled surgeon's results will be the same, but this is actually not the case.

Just like choosing an architect, interior decorator or wedding photographer, finding the right plastic surgeon is a very personal choice. Plastic surgeons can have their own unique patient approach and treatment goals, and these are often reflected in the photo galleries of before and after treatment pictures. Knowing what to look for as you browse breast augmentation photos can help you discern small differences and narrow down your list of prospective surgeons and facilities.

Before and after – what to look for

While it's certainly crucial to consider the credentials, expertise and safety standards of the surgeon's practice, you should also be sure to look through as many before and after photos as you can. Not only can you learn about the aesthetic style of the surgeon, but you can also get a better understanding of the results you can expect for your body type.

When you're looking through galleries, you should pay attention to the women who look most like you in terms of body type and starting breast shape. It can be helpful to look through all of the photos, but only the procedures done on women who most resemble you can give you an idea of what you can realistically expect to get out of your breast augmentation. Here are some more tips that can help you study the before and after galleries like a pro:

  1. Pay attention to symmetry and proportion. A truly skilled surgeon will understand the mathematics of beauty and strive for as much symmetry as possible in every patient. Regardless of starting body type, the "after" pictures should show an improvement in the woman's proportions.
  2. Ask yourself if the results look natural. The goal of cosmetic surgery is to bring out the best, most beautiful version of yourself. If you find a surgeon whose patients all look naturally improved after surgery, this is a great sign.
  3. Look for beautiful results in a variety of women. There is a degree of artistry involved in plastic surgery, but there are some surgeons who lack the depth of skill needed to achieve excellent outcomes on all body types. If you see too many pictures that look the same, there's a good chance that the surgeon will not be able to personalize his or her methods to suit you.
  4. Check for thoughtful scar placement. All surgical procedures will leave a scar, but skillful surgeons are able to minimize the degree of scarring. Most breast augmentation galleries feature nude photos, so you will be able to see if the surgeon placed the incisions in inconspicuous locations that can be easily concealed post-surgery.

Still unsure? Don't hesitate to ask for a consultation

Before and after pictures are a great starting point, but they cannot replace the information you'll be able to get from an in-person consultation with a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon. Often, plastic surgery offices will be able to give you more detailed information about which type, size and profile of breast implants would best suit your body type and aesthetic goals.

Ultimately, before and after galleries cannot tell you with total certainty whether or not a particular surgeon is the best fit for you. They are valuable tools to help you narrow your search and better articulate your desires, but the only way to know for sure if a plastic surgeon is "the one" is to request an in-office consultation.

Breast augmentation is an exciting, life-changing procedure that can give your confidence a huge boost. Once you get a feel for the kinds of results you're after, finding the right perfect surgeon can be a breeze.
