Sean T. Doherty, MD
Dr. Sean Doherty is a Board Certified plastic surgeon, and Boston native who attended Tufts University School of Medicine after receiving his BA in Art History from Columbia University. It is this dichotomy - art lover and humanist versus scientist and doctor that truly sets him apart. While he excels at the technical side of surgery, he is passionate about getting to know his patients as people. From the moment you walk through his doors, his goal is for you to feel safe, seen and heard.

Meet Dr. Sean Doherty
Dr. Sean Doherty is a plastic surgeon of the breast, face and body. A Boston native, he graduated salutatorian from Dedham High School before heading off to New York City where he attended Columbia University as an undergraduate. After receiving his BA in Art History, he returned home to Boston for medical school at Tufts University School of Medicine. While completing his general surgical residency at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, he was drawn to plastic surgery because of its dichotomy. Plastic surgeons utilize proven historical surgical principals while simultaneously pushing the envelope, embracing new technologies and techniques. It’s a great balance that suits both his personality and his practice philosophy. As a perfectionist, he excels at the technical precision of plastic surgery. It’s one of the reasons why he loves doing breast augmentations. But as a lover of ancient art, he also embraces a simple, natural looking aesthetic. Many of the new cutting edge modalities help him to achieve both. His goal with any procedure, whether it’s big or small, is to help his patients look refreshed, not exaggerated. A true humanist, Dr. Doherty never loses sight of the patient as a person. He spends time really getting to know his patients, understanding their hopes, fears and desires. It makes him a better doctor. In addition to performing the full range of surgical and non-surgical techniques, Dr. Doherty is also the Medical Director at Cynosure. His responsibilities include testing the safety and efficacy of cutting edge lasers for body contouring and facial rejuvenation as well as training other surgeons to use these modalities. When he is not in the OR, Dr. Doherty loves catching up with old friends, being the “cool” uncle to his nieces and nephews, and hanging out at the newest restaurant in Boston.
Your Consultation
The consultation is a vital part of your plastic surgery journey. With all of the information available today, patients are more educated than at any other time in history. This is invaluable. But sometimes, the procedure that you think you need is not the one that will actually deliver your desired result. During your initial consultation, Dr. Doherty and his team will take a thorough medical history. He will listen carefully to what it is that bothers you about your face, breast or body as well as what “look” you are hoping to achieve. He’ll conduct a physical exam to assess your anatomy and present you with an array of treatment options. Then, together, you will come up with the treatment plan that best suits your anatomy, goals and lifestyle.
The goal of the consultation is really two fold. First, it is a chance for you to interview Dr. Doherty. While the web can give you a good idea of his training, education and expertise, the relationship between plastic surgeon and patient is extremely personal. On a gut level, you have to trust your surgeon. This is why meeting in person is so important. But second, the consultation is also a chance for Dr. Doherty to assess your goals and expectations. An exemplary plastic surgery result always starts with a skillful match of the right procedure with the right patient.

Patient Testimonials
I look back and wonder why I waited so long to get help with my problem areas. I would do it again 100 times over. The recovery was a breeze since it was done under local. I was back to work in 2 days and just had some minor soreness. I do not believe there is a better surgeon around, he is THE BEST!
I have referred many friends to him for several different procedures and all are so pleased with their results. Mostly, it has been nice to trust him to always make me feel comfortable with our treatment plan. Next year, I am planning to have upper eyelid surgery and I would not give a thought to having anyone other then Dr Doherty perform my surgery.
Having cosmetic surgery can be a very intimate, sensitive subject yet Dr. Doherty has a way to keep you totally at ease. He explains his recommendations and answers any questions, double checking to make sure you understand. He is totally approachable, easy to talk to and has a great sense of humor
