Seventh annual ISPRES Congress launches in Chicago Sept. 30 in Chicago
The seventh ISPRES Congress will take place Sept. 30-Oct. 1, in conjunction with Plastic Surgery The Meeting at McCormick Place West. The two-day meeting will focus on regenerative plastic surgery by highlighting fat grafting, innovation and research, patient care and clinical use. Led by the top voices in this specialized area of plastic surgery, this educational event will feature the lessons learned by subspecialty leaders; an IFATS panel discussion; and educational sessions to disseminate and share knowledge that will advance this emerging field.
Panel discussions in Chicago will include "Complications in Regenerative Surgery;" "Advances in Regenerative Technologies;" "Radiation Therapy;" "Advances in Regenerative Surgery, Now and Tomorrow – Lessons from the Masters;" and "How is Fat Grafting Changing My Approach to Address Different and Challenging Areas of Reconstruction?" The Multi-Society Task Force for Safety in Gluteal Fat Grafting (of which ISPRES is a member) issued a patient safety alert in July – and the topic will be featured prominently during the first day of programming, including a panel that will address gluteal augmentation-based complications; an update by J. Peter Rubin, MD, on the task force's work; and the South American perspective on gluteal fat grafting, delivered by Alexandra Conde-Green, MD, who trained in plastic surgery at the Ivo Pitanguy Institute in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
The Chicago gathering of ISPRES follows successful international summits in Rome, Berlin, Miami, Beijing, Marseilles and last year's ISPRES Congress in Dubai, which hosted 300 attendees. The upcoming meeting will welcome not only international representation in the plastic surgery specialty, it also will shine the spotlight on world-renowned experts from the United States, Japan, France, Brazil and Italy.
Last year's ISPRES Congress saw the launch of the ISPRES/ICOPLAST Young Plastic Surgeon Award for plastic surgeons under age 35. Last year's winner, Bong-Sung Kim, MD, from Germany, received the honor for his paper, "Characterization of Stem Cells and Macrophages in Inflamed Fat Tissue and the Role of MIF Family Proteins in this Context." Submissions are now being accepted for this year's award, and candidates are encouraged to submit their entries here.
