About ASPS

American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS)

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is the largest plastic surgery specialty organization in the world. Founded in 1931, the Society represents 92 percent of all board-certified plastic surgeons in the United States, and more than 11,000 plastic surgeons worldwide – making ASPS a global institution and leading authority on cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.

The ASPS mission is to advance quality care for plastic surgery patients by encouraging high standards of training, ethics, physician practice and research in plastic surgery. To support its members in the provision of excellent patient care, ASPS will provide education, advocacy, practice support and enhanced public awareness of the value of plastic surgery, while fostering the highest professional, ethical and quality standards. The Society is a strong advocate for patient safety and requires its members to operate in accredited surgical facilities that have passed rigorous external review of equipment and staffing.

The ASPS website welcomes millions of visitors a year and is one of the most popular online destinations for those interested in learning about plastic surgery procedures and finding a highly trained, qualified plastic surgeon.

The Plastic Surgery Foundation (The PSF)

ASPS works in concert with The Plastic Surgery Foundation (The PSF). Founded in 1948, the mission of The PSF is to advance plastic surgery through innovative research, develop scientific leaders and improve the quality of life of plastic surgery patients.

The Foundation's programs and initiatives focus on four priority objectives:

  1. Track, analyze and promote data regarding plastic surgery procedures, patient safety and quality outcomes.
  2. Advance the research and career development of plastic surgery residents and early career scientists.
  3. Support emerging innovators and thought leadership collaborations.
  4. Partner with plastic surgeons, patients, industry and other partners to increase access to safe, effective and affordable plastic surgery care that meets the needs of individuals and populations.
