PlastyPAC | PlastyPAC Sees Unprecedented Success During the First Quarter

In the midst of a highly contested election year, PlastyPAC is in strong position to support members of Congress who support plastic surgeons and their patients. Thanks to the support of ASPS members throughout the country, PlastyPAC raised $107,186 during the first quarter, which is $50,000 more than any first quarter since 2010. These funds allow the PAC to provide bi-partisan support to key members of Congress, including physician members of Congress such as Reps. Ami Bera (D-CA-07), Raul Ruiz (D-CA-36), Charles Boustany (R-LA-03), Andy Harris (R-MD-01), and Phil Roe (R-TN-01).

PlastyPAC is critically important, as it allows ASPS to educate and influence members of Congress on the issues that directly affect the way you practice medicine. It ensures the specialty's voice is heard by Congress as ASPS works to:

  • Protect patient safety through policies that prevent non-physicians from performing complex surgical procedures
  • Ensure that unqualified practitioners cannot advertise in a false or misleading way
  • Positively influence MACRA implementation (the SGR replacement) so that physicians are not negatively impacted by the new regulations
  • Repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board
  • Increasing the cap on Medicare-funded graduate medical education (GME) positions and increasing funding for those additional residency slots

The PlastyPAC Board of Governors would like to thank those members who contributed to such a successful first quarter. To see a list of current contributors or to make a contribution to PlastyPAC, visit PlastyPAC.net or email jfrasco@plasticsurgery.org
