FEDERAL | ASPS Responds to CMS Call for Feedback on MIPS Cost Measures
In response to a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) request for feedback, ASPS submitted a letter outlining the Society's concerns with the latest iteration of draft episode-based groups and trigger codes. When constructed appropriately, episode-based cost measures will allow the Agency to better assess how costs and quality contribute to value based care. Because ASPS is committed to ensuring patients receive the best outcomes, the letter outlines the Society's concerns with gaps in the formation of episode groups developed to date. ASPS asked the Agency to consider utilizing ICD-10-PCS codes as a way to validate costs for operations with more than one potential treatment plan, such as mastectomies with or without immediate reconstruction and/or chemotherapy. ASPS also asked the Agency to make public their plans to address fluctuations in inflation and medical device costs as the program expands.
