AMA | Lynn Jeffers, MD, FACS Wins Election to the AMA’s Council on Medical Service

During the Annual Meeting of the American Medical Association's House of Delegates, ASPS member Dr. Lynn Jeffers was elected to a seat on the Council on Medical Service (CMS). CMS develops reports on policies and makes recommendations to the AMA HOD on the socioeconomic factors that influence the practice of medicine. The council reviews numerous issues impacting the medical community including: physician-led, team-based healthcare, health insurance, hospitals and hospital based services, Medicare and Medicaid, etc. Recent reports CMS has authored have dealt with rising pharmaceutical costs, Medicare coverage decisions, as well as controlling insurance costs. Dr. Jeffers spearheaded a well-run campaign, and ultimately won election against three other physicians.

Dr. Jeffers brings a wealth of experience in advocacy and health policy to this role. During her more than 20 years serving in the AMA's House of Delegates, she has been a physician leader working to craft reasonable and sound health policy. A large part of her practice is reconstructive breast surgery, and she has experience developing a physician-led multispecialty Integrated Breast Center. Additionally, she lends a well-rounded perspective, because she has practiced in different settings including solo practice. Her role on CMS will lend a plastic surgeons' perspective and voice to AMA policy making.
