Patients of CouragePatients of Courage: Triumph over Adversity

Support: $25,000

Each year millions of men, women and children throughout the world suffer the debilitating affects of injury, disease and birth defects. Many face overwhelming odds to feel “whole” again. Patients of Courage: Triumph over Adversity honors these patients for their perseverance, strength and determination.

ASPS Member Surgeons perform more than 1.5 million reconstructive procedures each year. These patients include children with birth defects or dog-bite injuries, adults injured in accidents or badly burned from fires, and senior citizens with problems caused by disease and aging. Often these patients overcome great obstacles and extreme situations caused by or related to their injury or deformity.

Selected patients that have been nominated by ASPS Member Surgeons will be recognized via an award presentation during Opening Ceremonies of the annual meeting.

Annual Meeting Recognition:

  • Your company name and logo will be on each award presented during Opening Ceremonies.
  • Your company name and logo will appear on the slide announcing the winners during Opening Ceremonies.
  • Your company name will be included in the Official Program.
  • Your company name will be included in all publicity surrounding this award.

Media Briefing

$20,000

Through various programs and communications vehicles, ASPS conveys important information to the public and the media to educate those interested in or needing plastic surgery procedures.

One way ASPS provides such information is by hosting high-level media briefings for leading health and medical journalists. These briefings provide information on advances in the specialty or highlight specific “hot topics” of the specialty that need explanation, illumination or clarification.

The overall goals are education and relationship building with journalists, rather than the immediate generation of articles.

Media briefings are generally held in New York City or Washington, DC, depending on the target media. Briefings, usually 2-3 hours, consist of a panel of invited experts who give presentations on various aspects or facets of the topic.

Examples of past media briefings have included:

  • Breasts: Creating Beauty, Restoring Health
  • The Wrinkle Revolution — The New Injectables
  • Reshaping Bodies and Self Esteem after Massive Weight Loss
  • Iraq Experience: Plastic Surgeons Repairing Battle Wounds

Subjects for 2008 media briefings are yet to be determined.

Helmets of SafetyHelmets 4 Safety

Support: $15,000

Bike riding is one of the most popular recreational sports among children in the United States and the leading cause of recreational sports injuries. However, studies show that helmets can prevent 85 percent of serious head injuries and 65 percent of injuries to the mid- and upper face.

As ASPS kicks-off Plastic Surgery 2008, 2,000 multi-sport helmets will be donated to Chicago’s elementary school children to promote safety and prevent facial injuries and fractures. Helmets 4 Safety is an annual gift to benefit the host city’s most prized possession — its children.

Recreational sports injuries account for a significant part of reconstructive plastic surgery performed on children each year. Through this donation, ASPS hopes to prevent these injuries and to encourage more children to wear helmets.

Annual Meeting Recognition:

  • Your company name and logo will be featured on each helmet.
  • Your company name and logo will be included in the Official Program.
  • Your company name will be included in all publicity surrounding the donation.
